A Life in Lyrics

ok

So, yesterday i had a moment of pure clarity. I was walking to work, in the snow, listening to my ipod on random and every track was perfect for a snowy day (as far as im concerned). I wont go into the full list because its not really the point, just take into account it ended with "White Wedding - Billy Idol"

What it made me realise though was that we are all inadvertently shaped by the lyrics of the music we listen to growing up!

Id describe myself as a complicated dreamer

When growing up, my dad listened to the Moody Blues and Dire Straits while my mum listened to the Carpenters and Dean Friedman....coincidence? i think not

Honestly, go through your music collection and listen to the songs that have been with you for some time, not the fluff that fills your collection every now and then but the songs that stay with you, and NOT songs that have emotional connections to someone, they dont count. Im willing to bet you find 1, 2 or several dozen lines in the songs that directly evoke how you feel about life or love....and the question is, does it really evoke what you feel? or are your feelings just a product of what it evokes? are we shaped by what we listen to? or does good music just relate to us?

  1. This struck a chord (no pun intended) with me, my ipod is filled with metaphors for my life.
